Pinellas County is a long barrier-island beach strip on the Gulf side with downtown St. Petersburg on the bay side. Most visitors split a weekend between the sand (Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Pass-a-Grille) and the city (the St. Pete Pier, the Dalí, the Central Avenue bar scene).
Getting around: the beach towns run along Gulf Boulevard, and the drive from Clearwater Beach to Pass-a-Grille takes longer than the map suggests on weekends. Pick a home base on one end and plan your day around it.
